Chapter 5 | Create Course

Users will create a course to demonstrate both the full capabilities of the MOTAR Unity SDK and the interaction between MOTAR and Unity Hub.

Log In to MOTAR Sandbox Training

5.1. Users will LOG IN to the MOTAR SANDBOX TRAINING environment utilizing the Instructor account generated in Chapter 4 of this tutorial.

Users can log in via the direct link below, which differs from the MOTAR Studio link utilized in Chapters 3 and 4 of list tutorial.

The MOTAR Sandbox Training environment can also can be accessed by selecting SANDBOX from the MOTAR Studio menu bar, then selecting TRAINING from the Sandbox dropdown menu.

Example image below provides a reference for where the required username and password can be located on the Sandbox user account card.

Create a Course

5.2. To create a new course, CLICK the CREATE A COURSE button found near the bottom of the page.

5.2.1. INPUT the COURSE TITLE using the format: <creator's initials> Alien Invasion Demo. POPULATE the DESCRIPTION (these fields are required, as annotated by the asterisk *). CLICK the SAVE & CLOSE button to save the requested changes.

For ease of reference later in the tutorial, Course Title must match the format: <creator's initials> Alien Invasion Demo.

For example, the user Tim P. Smith will input the Course Title: TPS Alien Invasion Demo.

Course Titles cannot contain symbols (i.e. hyphen -, slash /, comma ,).

If the user tries to enter a course name that is already in use, they will receive an error and need to input a different name before being able to save.

5.2.2. CLICK the CLASSES tab.

5.2.3. CLICK the CREATE NEW CLASS button to create a new class.

5.2.3.1. POPULATE CLASS TITLE and DESCRIPTION.

Class Titles must be unique - highly recommend including the creator’s initials in the title to ensure there is not a duplicate in the system.

Class Titles cannot contain symbols (i.e. hyphen -, slash /, comma ,).

Course Version will be pre-populated.

5.2.3.2. SELECT the TRADITIONAL CLASS type.

The TRADITIONAL CLASS type must be selected for this tutorial.

5.2.3.3. SELECT a future START DATE and END DATE (used for Traditional Class type).

5.2.3.4. CLICK the CREATE button to save requested changes and create the new class.

5.2.3.5. The new class will be displayed on the new course’s Classes tab.

Assign Student to Course

5.3. Users will now add students to the course created in section 5.2. of this tutorial.

5.3.1. CLICK the USERS tab.

5.3.2. CLICK the ADD STUDENT button.

5.3.3. SEARCH for the SECOND USER CREATED in Chapter 4 of this tutorial (the user account that was assigned student permissions). SELECT the + ICON next to the student’s name.

5.3.4. CLICK the ADD STUDENT(S) button to add the student(s) to the course.

5.3.5. The added student(s) will be displayed on the course’s Classes tab.

Add Modules to Course

5.4. Users will now add three modules to the course created in section 5.2. of this tutorial. The modules will demonstrate the full capabilities of the MOTAR Unity SDK and the interaction between MOTAR and Unity Hub.

5.4.1. CLICK the MODULES tab.

5.4.2. CLICK the EDIT MODULES button.

5.4.2.1. SELECT the option APPLY CHANGES TO EXISTING CLASS, CHECK the BOX to acknowledge the version being changed has student(s) enrolled, and CLICK the MODIFY SELECTED VERSION button.

5.4.3. SELECT + APP LESSON.

5.4.3.1. SEARCH for the SANDBOX APP LISTING created in Chapter 3. Once found, CLICK the SELECT APP button.

5.4.3.2. INPUT the LESSON NAME: <creator’s initials> Alien Invasion Simulation. CLICK the ADD APP LESSON button.

For ease of reference later in the tutorial, lesson name must match the format: <creator’s initials> Alien Invasion Simulation.

For example, the user Tim P. Smith will input the Course Title: TPS Alien Invasion Simulation.

5.4.4. CLICK the + ICON on the newly created app lesson to add a child module.

5.4.4.1. SELECT + DOCUMENT to insert a document module.

5.4.4.2. INPUT the LESSON NAME: Controls and Objectives UI. UPLOAD the FILE provided below for download (file name: ControlsAndObjectives_1.txt).

To download the file, CLICK the LINK below. When the text opens in a new tab, RIGHT CLICK and select SAVE AS to save as a text document (.txt file type). The user can also copy the text into a new text document (i.e. Notebook document) and save as a .txt file type.

5.4.4.3. After the secure scanning is complete, CLICK CLOSE on the file upload modal.

5.4.4.4. CLICK the ADD DOCUMENT button to save all changes.

5.4.5. CLICK the + ICON on the previously created app lesson to add a second child module.

5.4.5.1. SELECT + EVENT SET to insert an event set module.

5.4.5.2. INPUT the event set TITLE: Alien Invasion Event Set. CLICK the + ADD EVENT button.

5.4.5.3. INPUT the EVENT NAME: Investigate UFO. INPUT the EVENT DESCRIPTION: Does the student investigate the UFO?

5.4.5.4. CLICK the + ADD EVENT button to create a second event.

5.4.5.5. INPUT the EVENT NAME: Place Powercells. INPUT the EVENT DESCRIPTION: Does the student properly place all three power cells in proper locations?

5.4.5.6. CLICK the ADD EVENT SET button to save all changes.

5.4.6. CLICK the + ICON on the previously created app lesson to add a third child module.

5.4.6.1. SELECT + ASSESSMENT to insert an assessment module.

5.4.6.2. INPUT the assessment TITLE: Post-Invasion Assessment. CLICK the + ADD NEW QUESTION button.

5.4.6.2.1. CREATE two MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS in accordance with the images below. Ensure the correct answers are selected, as annotated by the green checkmark.

5.4.6.2.2. INPUT the first QUESTION: How many power cells are missing from the UFO?

5.4.6.2.3. INPUT three answer OPTIONS: 1, 3, and 5. SELECT the CORRECT ANSWER: 3.

5.4.6.2.4. SELECT the + ADD NEW QUESTION button, then INPUT the SECOND QUESTION: What colors were the power cells?

5.4.6.2.5. INPUT three answer OPTIONS: Blue, Yellow, and Purple; Green, White, and Purple; Blue, White, and Red. SELECT the CORRECT ANSWER: Blue, Yellow, and Purple.

5.4.6.3. CLICK the ADD ASSESSMENT button once all questions are created.

5.4.6.4. CLICK the VISIBLE setting on all child modules to toggle their visibility settings to HIDDEN.

Setting the child modules’ visibility to HIDDEN will ensure they will not be visible to students in the course. This will be demonstrated later in Chapter 5.

5.4.6.5. CLICK the DONE button to save all changes and exit editing mode.

Publish Course

5.5. To publish the course, SELECT PUBLISH COURSE from the SETTINGS dropdown menu.

5.5.1. VERIFY the COURSE STATUS has been updated from UNPUBLISHED to PUBLISHED.

Preview Course

5.6. To preview the course, SELECT the PREVIEW COURSE button.

5.6.1. SELECT the CONTINUE THIS COURSE button.

5.6.2. The user will be redirected to the course preview. In the preview, the course will be displayed as it will be visible to enrolled students.

Please note that the child modules are hidden due to actions taken earlier in Chapter 5.
